#bc the adopted siblings argument is that 'they're not really related' ... then just make them childhood friends or something

last night instead of sleeping i binged a chunk of the manhwa prince bari ... interesting premise of 2 shamans who respectively each have spirits who meet but not much else to the plot admittedly other than the relationships/pairings ... (i mean there is story stuff but no like one (1) overarching plot if you get what i mean. or not any i discerned from the 65 ch i read)
the first pairing gets “resolved” real fast and i put that in quotes bc there barely was a conflict for them ... just a ‘oh shit i have feelings for him’ on yohan’s part and then haha ok we’re together now; which i mean was fine bc really their main issue was lack of communication and there’s only so much you can draw that out. and there wasn’t really much homophobia on anyone’s part so that potential conflict is nonexistent too (i really liked the case with the 2 girls though ... a very sweet story). all in all they’re kind of underdeveloped so not much to say abt them
the 2nd pairing was already kind of hinted at really early on so i’d even argue that the 2nd pairing is the main pairing of the series ... when they were heavily hinting pairing them up in the early ch i was like ‘oh god are they really gonna try to legit do a child x adult pairing ... no way they’re gonna try to make it look better’ which yes they naturally eventually explained his kid appearance as being just a form he takes, ‘haha he’s actually an adult’, so whatever i can deal with spirits with a 100-yr+ age gap. BUT THEN they revealed that donga was picked up by chunho literally as a child and chunho basically raised him and OF COURSE OF COURSE the classic trope (is this even called a trope?) of ‘aged/grew up physically fast so now it’s not weird bc it’s adult x adult’ ! god. i was interested in the spirits pairing bc admittedly they are more interesting than the first pairing and i liked their dynamic (albeit the weird insinuations abt chunho being attracted to a kid. which i mean. in hindsight ended up being fucking true) but then once the authors revealed their full dynamic ... i can’t do this anymore. and it’s weird bc even chunho was like ‘oh you shouldn’t have those feelings bc we’re too far apart in age and experiences’ but then suddenly he’s ok with it ... like i do like the pairing in concept, but just the fact that they chose to do the ‘aged up kid’ thing rather than ‘2 spirits who just have a large age gap but have developed on their own respectively’ ... oof. most likely will not be following anymore since the spirits pairing is basically the focus of the manhwa rn, like it really just rubs me the wrong way ... i could not even read past 1 ch of their r18 side story bc the dialogue made me cringe so bad. really disappointed that the authors chose to do them like this
